The plan of the garden is one of my favourite parts of this website. See below –
It started with a very dry ordinance survey map that was updated when the garden was surveyed a year or so ago to decide whether it had merit as a wood… At that time it was found to be a garden, which wasn’t a huge surprise to me as it was the grounds of a much larger house, to which Ferns Lodge was just that.
Originally planted in Victorian times, it explains the date palms, cork oak, Monterey pines and all manner of other stuff, popular at that time… However for those who know best in the Local Authority planning department, it resolutely remains a wood – no matter!
Having scrawled all over it, clever Nick Beresford Davies of Tinstar fame, who created the website, painted this splendid map. You can visit this You Tube video link to see how he did it –
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year.
